Working abroad for CEVA Logistics

15 September 2016

Ellie Veldhuis is 31 years old and has more than six years’ experience in Human Recourses with CEVA Logistics. After five years working for CEVA in the Benelux, she became the HR Business Partner at our Global Head Office (GHO) in 2015. A few weeks ago Ellie started a new challenge as HR Manager at CEVA in the Philippines. In the coming months Ellie will share her experiences with you on a regular basis. Stay informed on her journey at CEVA Logistics!

Goodbye, Hello!
And then suddenly my career took another direction which I didn’t see coming. I had thought about working abroad before. So, when my manager asked me what my thoughts were about working in the Philippines, I did not need to think twice. Instantly I became very excited.

About the new role
In my position of HR manager for our site in Manila (Philippines) I will face a huge challenge for the coming year: insourcing of approximately 200 IT staff who will deliver global IT support. The start-up of this IT operation is new for CEVA which is exciting. Furthermore I will build the HR organization, employee benefits and HR policies from scratch.

The first week
The first week was mainly filled with gathering as much information as I possibly could. What do I need to complete the puzzle as I call it? And this is exactly where my strength lays: I create my own plan, figure out what needs to be done and go do it. Having worked here now for a few weeks the picture is getting clearer every day. With a new role comes also getting introduced to many new faces. Since it is almost impossible to remember so many new names at once I am glad that we all had nametags. It already saved me from some embarrassing moments of asking someone’s name for the 10th time.

First impressions
No matter the chaos we sometimes face or the difficult situations we have to deal with; the enthusiasm, creativity and motivation of the team to make this a success is really cool and exciting to be part of. Together with the team we continuously look for the best ways to solve problems and if we make any mistakes we fix them and try to do better next time. Continuous improvement is already in everyone’s system so the CEVA culture is already getting in place during the startup phase. I love being here and really look forward to be part of this amazing challenge this upcoming year.
